We did go away, headed to the Hastings seaside. We had fun together, smelled and tasted sea air. Throughout the day we looked for things that inspired us in Hastings and up on the cliffs we renewed our mutual commitment to Scarabeus…
“We passed a café called The Good Place that seemed to be a happy, popular, community-based institution animated by ethical principles. I reflected that Scarabeus is a good place in a similar sense and that it creates ‘good places’ for the young people and families who take part in its programmes, and this is a reason why I value my involvement.” -Simon
“A seagull struts into the carriage train. The passengers watch with a mix of astonishment and amusement. This moment feels like Scarabeus to me: the collision of extraordinary and mundane, daring audiences to rethink boundaries. My commitment to Scarabeus comes from its ability to bring so much marvel into people’s lives, sharing how the unexpected can inspire wonders. Scarabeus embodies creativity soaring into new realms.” -Donatella
“I am in awe of the work of Scarabeus and proud to be able to be part of it. There are lasting connections: long history of collaboration, shared beliefs, pushing and overcoming barriers, and above all trust.” -Mandy
“Looking at the horizon in the distance where the sea meets the sky, reflects the endless vision, possibilities and impact of Scarabeus. There are clouds of course, because there are always challenges, but there is hope. The water is calm. We are stable. Perhaps each pebble represents the individuals Scarabeus has connected with the ripple effect that has had on each person’s life and relationships.” -Julia.
“Why Scarabeus? The foundation of bravery, experimentation, opening/engaging their art to everyone. To cover the world with silk, rope, art – all of it – in one of the most honest ways!” -Rose
“I am committed to Scarabeus because they support me in doing things I love! I believe in them whole heartedly and I hope to strengthen and develop my contribution for as long as possible. I feel brave to be myself, safe to grow and learn. I am very grateful for all I am experiencing.” -Emma
“I am very narrow and tall, reaching for the sky. I have stood up in all kinds of weather. Although I look small I house many treasures. I am the keeper of nets that can be cast wide and deep. All my nets go back inside to dry and rest, be safe while the storm is blowing, taking up little space until the sky is blue and the sea is calm. I am Scarabeus incarnate.” -Søren
“A wide flaming horizon reflected in water. My commitment to Scarabeus is to keep our vision and mission alive. Through Scarabeus I contribute to positive change, by weaving and keep mending the web of support that keep us all together. This is what we do every day…” -Daniela.
